Speedometer cable lube?

Post by offcenter »

Just got a new speedometer cable.
I'd like to lube it before I install it.
What is recommended?
Motor oil? Some kind of grease?
Clutch cable lube?
Obviously the speedometer cable gets a lot more use
and a lot more wear than clutch or throttle cables.
So whatever I use should be made to last a long time.
Any suggestions, gang?

Speedometer Cable Lubricant ;)
Dorman 03344 is ideal, but I have also used Super Lube PTFE grease.

I never use any kind of grease or wet lubricant on cables. Only dry graphite lubricant. You spray it down the cable, the volatile carrier quickly evaporates, and leaves behind a very slippery, dry graphite lubricant.

It is also perfect for use in lubricating locks.
