How wide can you go with a car tire on the 1500?

Depends on the brand and sidewall profile. Some 195s fit while others don't.

I had a wide one and didn't like it. It tracked grooves in the road and handled weird at low speeds.
The much narrower 175/16 handles much better.

Thanks but all I’m wondering is how wide can you go without the tire rubbing the swing arm
I don’t mind the 175 but that width won’t allow for a tall enough tire. I’m trying to match stock height of the original 160/80/16 which is a 128 mm tall sidewall.

I believe the Austone was a 175/75-16 and was just slightly larger than the stock.

Okay thank you. That’s a bit taller than stock but negligible. That size might work.

That is correct. The slightly larger diameter reduced the engine rpm at 60 mph by about 500 rpm.
