Add-On Accessories is no more

Post by WingAdmin »

And the last big one has fallen.

Over the years, there have been some very huge aftermarket manufacturers of parts and accessories for Goldwings. Markland was a huge one, but went out of business years ago. Without question, Add-On Accessories was the largest remaining manufacturer, providing a ton of accessories and parts for Goldwings of all eras. They also bought the rights (and stock) of some smaller manufacturers when the smaller guys went out of business, just to keep the parts available. Chromed versions of unobtainable plastic body parts (GL1500 side panels & wheel covers), trunk racks, rails, chrome accents, parts for every bike from the GL1000 to GL1800.

Unfortunately, the end has come for Add-On Accessories. The owners are retiring, and calling it a day.

From Add-On Accessories:
"After careful consideration all of us at Add On have decided that now is the time for us to retire and spend more time with our families. We would like to thank all of our loyal dealers for your support through the years."
Unfortunately, this pretty much leaves only Show Chrome, Kuryakin, Parts Unlimited...and (ugh) Saber Cycle in this market space. But none have the breadth of product line that Add-On had.

Isn't Show Chrome still in business?

This is horrible news for us goldwing owners. I don't understand why they would choose to shut down a business instead of trying to sell it to another company! Heck, I don't have a lot of cash flow, but I would buy some shares if it would keep the company in business! Just the rights to intellectual property and dies & molds should bring a pretty penny if it were placed on the market. It is sure going to make keeping my 1990 GL1500SE in pristine condition very difficult.

Been riding Wings since 2013 and I’ve never heard of Saber Cycle until today, when WingAdmin posted this video. All of the complaints on the sites are from 2008-2009. Gene died in 2014 and Diane is an alderman. Has anyone ordered from them in the last decade? I see PayPal is back to working with them on their eBay page, but still this ridiculous Barracuda® brand being used.
I’m not old, I’m a classic.

This may open a door to us or someone you know who makes items in their garage or basement.

I'm sort-of unintentionally offering to get rear taxi tires for those who want.
This car tire market has only 2 sellers in the US & they're charging $200+!
I'm doing what I can to hold our cost to a reasonable level by NOT being greedy.

I've actively...um, discouraged the posting of overly negative Saber Cycle stuff here, beyond anything noted as personal opinion or provable facts. Those guys, besides their terrible customer service (in my opinion), are...extremely litigious and have done some stalker-level doxxing against people who posted negative things about them. Those are documented facts (I still have the evidence, just in case), and let's just leave it at that.

Just know that what has been posted about them in the past is pretty much still true today.

Scott,
Could all 90000 members put in $10-20 and we buy the lot?

Oddly in the BBB they're A+ credited.
I surmise their (pushy, tart, laborious) litigious, NIX's any BBB neg. scores.

I read through a few complaints, all horrendous.
But the BBB says they don't take into account (we mere mortal) complainers.
The BBB used to be a good place to rate businesses. 🎵 For the times, they are a-chang'in
