OH, they are on tight, I even bend the 2 tabs so they are tighter, but walk(?) they do.
So after buying 2 covers it got to the point, why keep spending money when I can make JUST FINE replacements from soda can bottoms. The CHROMY'R looking, the better.
I made a few that were too small, narrow, wide, etc., but eventually I got it down to where they're just about right. In the pix you can see I made the bend slightly to wide but still looks OK. It's possible to bend narrower without visual damage, but bending wider looks bad. PRACTICE.
Let me save you some time, and cut fingers.
They're 13/16" to 7/8" (old school inches) height (before bending), as for the width, measure your opening and add 1/4 to 3/8 in., your choice but too long and it will not slide. There's stops on the underside of the trim.
__ FYI: Take sandpaper or a knife and knock down the sharp edges dull. A screwdriver works by rubbing until smooth. It's soft aluminum and will smooth out easily.
__ FYI: These don't have to slide, these you can simply POP them on they have some spring, unlike the stiff OEM ones. This way you can make them longer than the opening without worrying about bottoming when sliding.
Scratch or lose one, it takes maybe 15 mins. each after you mastered cutting to size.
