Replacing Broken studs on side panel

Post by agedbikeman »

Panel with broken stud
Panel with broken stud

When i got the wing last July, there were 2 studs broken off on one of the side panels, didn't think it mattered much until I nearly lost a side panel on a very windy day, on close inspection one of the broken studs was still stuck in the rubber grommet, so I glued it back to the panel with ABS glue (well impressed with that stuff) but what about the missing stud, the wind still want to remove the panel.
I found at my local diy store 1m of 11.5mm pvc rod for under $4, being a hobby wood turner I can turn plastic aswell, so down the cellar I go .

Nice job with the repair. If the other missing one is on the front top corner you sill find that one is a grommet and the stud is steel and mounted on the frame. I had the lower one, like you fabricated, break off and still was in the grommet. I pulled it out and glued it back in place with ABS cement and it has been good for a couple of months now.

yes I noticed that, but I actually had 2 plastic ones broken off.

The glue I used was made for all hard plastics, I glued 2 offcuts togetherfrom the stick I bought, try as I may, I could not break it.

Thanks for your reply

Alex.

P.S. I like your slogan, my sentiments exactly.
