Ok, it's been a while since i posted but i have been keeping up on my reading. A lot has changed since I last posted here. Winter is over. I am getting the bike road worthy again and when I tried to start it today to warm it up and adjust the carbs, to hopefully get better gas mileage, I pushed the starter button and it just spun but did not engage the engine. The first thing i did was find my spare brand new starter and then removed the old starter. I inspected the old starter and it appeared to be good so I came to this site to see what the problem could be. I did a search and found this post /forum/viewt ... f=4&t=7887 . It said it could be the ring gear pin in the starter. I took the starter apart and checked the ring gear and it was spinning freely. The pin was still in place but the starter itself was cracked so the pin had moved out enough so it no longer held the ring gear. Problem solved I install the new starter and am running again in less than a half hour. THIS IS WHY I LOVE THIS SITE. Thanks to all who post here and especially to WINGADMIN for starting this site and keeping it going all this time.
