timming belt

wanted to know if timming belt on 1980 GL1100 needs to be changed evey 30,000 miles as I have heard?===also how much to have it done at a dealer shop?

If you look in the how-to articles at the top of forum will find a how to do your timing belts,not to hard to do. If you dont know when they were last changed then its a good idea to change them. I could not say what a shop would charge or if you can find a good one that will work on a bike of that age.Oh and you can buy the belts from NAPA for a lot less then from mother Honda. Good Luck Hal

50,000 miles is reasonable as long as the bike has not sat for long periods of time. If the bike has sat for any length of time (i.e. a year or more) without being run, the belts should really be changed.
