GPS to Intercom on GL1500
I just purchased the (GPSIN-GL15) GPS to intercom for my 1999 1500SE and the audio in the head set is very low on the GPS I have (Magelland 1430), unable to hear the instruction when riding with wind noise, with both the audio adjusted to the max on the GPS itself and the intercom unit. I have read other reviews where some riders were having great success. I wonder if anyone can recommend a good (reasonable priced) GPS that works with this unit from Hollsco Group.

I've been using the TomTom Go 730 for quite a few years, I have three of them! They definitely work great, and have an output jack. They're discontinued now, but they still appear on Amazon closeout for $69 from time to time.
The TomTom Go 940, and all TomTom Go x20, x30 and x40 (i.e. 720, 730, 740, etc.) have audio outputs.
Some others with audio output jacks:
Garmin nuvi 855
Garmin nuvi 650
Garmin nuvi 765T
Garmin Zumo 550
Garmin Zumo 665
(actually, quite a few of the Garmin nuvi's, Zumo's and Montanas have an audio output jack)
If you have purchased a unit, please post the make and model of your GPS, so others can know what to look for!

Keep those GPS models coming boys. I'm looking for a new GPS for my bike and I'm having some trouble locating the ones with the 3.5mm audio out. I did find a decent deal on the Nuvi 855, but still looking. Thanks for the help.

Your GPS has to have a 3.5mm audio out jack tri. Most of the new GPS models have bluetooth, so no audio out jack to plug into.tricycle wrote:This gps to intercom unit can be bought where? You can buy it right here: GPS Audio Input Device.tricycle wrote:This gps to intercom unit can be bought where? I hava a tomtom and love it but there is no external speaker plug. My first TomTom had no external speaker plug either, so I took it apart and added one myself. That's obviously not going to be a great option for most people.
Bluetooth modules (and the controllers required to operate them) are not cheap - I would love to create a Bluetooth version of this device, but I suspect the price would push it up out of the range of what most people would be willing to pay.

I have used several garmin units, both on my old 15and my 18 none had any problems, all where interfaced by my own solution rather than a bought one though.

It probably wouldn't be as out of range as the $600 that J&M is charging for their unit.WingAdmin wrote: Bluetooth modules (and the controllers required to operate them) are not cheap - I would love to create a Bluetooth version of this device, but I suspect the price would push it up out of the range of what most people would be willing to pay.

It would be nice if someone made a hybrid headset. Bluetooth for newer electronics with a GW plug-in for the OEM stuff.

Re: GPS to Intercom on GL1500
I bought my Goldwing GPS Input to use with my Escort 8500 radar detector (not that I am endorsing the use of radar detectors). Now I can hear the alerts through my headset and am not constantly glancing at the detector. The Escort 8500 has the 3.5mm headset jack.
I also found an inexpensive Bluetooth solution that may work with the newer GPS units without the 3.5mm jack. The Motorola HF820 is an interesting device that was designed as a hands free speakerphone solution for cars. It has a 3.5mm headset jack. I use my HF820 as an input to my Autocom system, and I also run the Goldwing's audio through the Autocom. I've paired my phone with the HF 820 Bluetooth and this allows me to take a call if I want to while riding. A little different application than GPS input, but I'm guessing that would work, too. You can find the HF820 on Amazon and eBay.

Re: GPS to Intercom on GL1500
OK everyone, I made a day ride this Saturday of about 300 miles using a Garmin 855 with audio jack output and it worked great, had no problems at all, did not try and see if it would mute the radio when it gave an audio command, Don't really care as long as I can hear it in my head set while riding down the road. I purchased the 855LM which is a standard 855 with Life time Maps updates for around $180.00, which I think is a fair price for what I got. So yes the audio kit for the 1500 works great with the right GPS and it's very easy to install, less than a hour for me to install it. Side note :I am using a Ram Mount that's fully encloses the GPS in and has access to the touch screen, if needed it is also lockable which may deter someone giving it the five finger discount from your bike.

Re: GPS to Intercom on GL1500
they don't make them ant more but i bought a garmin street pilot c550 for 43$ on ebay.it works like new and has a 3.5 mm out audio. the interface i have has a plug in.2.5 mm female, that goes thru my head set. i have been having trouble finding the female end to plug in . also was told that could be hard to find one already made up.was also told that if i can't find one i could take a cord with the 3.5 mm on it,cut it and splice it in.unless the wires were same color coded as one to the other, don't no how comfortable i would be doing it.the c50 does work thru my blutooth phone but at hiway speeds can only hear the ding when a turn or the end location is coming up.my interface is a j&m cfrg-390c. if i could get a diagram of it and the color code for the male end i would considr it

Re: GPS to Intercom on GL1500
Check Radioing Shack I think would be your best bet on finding the adapter you are looking for. I purchase a 2.5mm male to 3.5mm female a while back and it is only 3 inches long but it fit the bill for what I needed. For splicing there should be only two wires and a shielding (braid) wire, you can ohm out the plug that is already wire to figure out where each wire goes on the other end, on the one I have the tip of plug is the sheided wire, mine has three section on each plug end. Hope this will help, Good luck.

2.5mm, 3.5mm and 1/4" plugs all work the same way:
In mono (TS) plugs, the sleeve (1) is ground, and the tip (3) is signal.
In stereo (TRS) plugs, the sleeve (1) is ground, the ring (2) is the right channel signal, and the tip (3) is the left channel signal.
There are also TRRS plugs that have four conductors, where one of them is used for microphone input (i.e. cell phone headphones).
