82GL1100 - Ford Starter Relay

Post by gaillarry »

My bike came with a Ford starter relay installed. Bike starts ok most of the time so I'm going to replace the relay as its a rust bucket.

There are 2 small wires from the harness hooked up to the pos post on the battery( with an in-line fuse) and 2 other small wires from the harness to the Ford relay. Two battery cables are installed on the lugs on the relay.

Picked up a new starter relay from a local shop that has two lugs for the bat cables and two small wires. Using this info in the docs section ( http://gl1200goldwings.com/techcenter/article1004.htm would this new relay work?

In a word yes.
It is best to solder the small wires to the push on terminal and maybe a bit of silicone to weatherproof it.
The 2 red wires and fuse are correct.
