turtle top trailer

Post by m2102 »

my question is, has anyone taken a turtle top trailer,4 spring loaded hooks hold it on and can be lifted off,and put hinges on it so it would not be removed just hinge up. it also has a double weather seal lip on lid and bottom half

Do you mean a car-top carrier? Not sure what a "turtle top" is...This is what I built prior to buying a bunkhouse. It worked well and I did add a hinge to allow it to open and close. Never had any leaking issues. Wasn't the prettiest...but it did the job!

that is very similar to the one i bought, although not home made. yours has the latches like mine does.only difference is mine are front and back, not on the sides. does yours have a rim on the top half and also on the bottom half for sealing? what kind of hinge did you use and could you post a couple pix of the end result? i new all i had to do was ask and someone would be able to shed some lite on my question.

I don't have any pictures that show the hinge, but it was just a piano style hinge that went along the edge (opposite side of the picture) and was screwed or riveted to the unit. the hinge was purchased at Home Depot or Lowes for about $6.00. It does have a skirt around the top portion on the box to seal the unit closed better, never added any waterproofing seals.
