Alcotronics Cycle-Gard License Plate Holder

Post by BigDee »

In looking over my '81 gl 1100i I noticed the license plate holder had a key slot in the side. I don't have the key but was able to unscrew the cover and found a security alarm system inside! Has anyone had any dealings with the Alcotronics Cycle-Gard system? Does anyone know where I can obtain a key? I did a web search and found references to it in 1972-3 magazines but nothing more recent. This is mounted on a '81 Wing. I would love to get this working again.

No help from here either but it sounds cool.Mess with the bike and it sounds an alarm and sets off your pager too.
I can't find any more info than what you did.Just old technology I guess.

I don't have any information on them anymore, but I put one on my 77 BMW, could put the cover on the bike and reach up under the cover with the key to arm it, worked great, came with a pager that always seemed to go off as soon as I got in the shower in a motel. I wish I could get another one now, if you find them available somewhere, let us know.

Thanks, guys. I guess I will take it to a locksmith and get it keyed. Then comes the question of does it work? Mercury switches seem pretty bulletproof but this thing is pretty old. The batteries were not corroded, that's a good sign, I hope! And it's too bad I don't have the remote to keep me on my toes in the shower!

I took the security system over to a lock smith/alarm specialist and although he had never heard of that specific brand of system he looked it over and found a key for it. He is looking it over to see if it works as we speak. I'll let you know how it comes out...

:( I spent $25 to get a new key made for a dead system. :( New 9v batteries, checked the switches and contacts, but I'm not electronic savvy enough to chase the circuits. Guess that's just one of those "Oh well" moments. Maybe I should just put the placard up "This bike has an alarm system" even though it doesn't work?
