JC Whitney Oil dipstick

Post by rpsanders »

I've scoured the internet trying to find out if the dip stick made for the gl1100 will fit my 79 gl1000. I'm fed up with having to use a flashlight, screwdriver and Windex every time i change my oil. Has anyone tried this before?

Alright i'm going for it. The JC whitney site just always tells me it won't fit, but its a good $40 gamble.

If it doesn't fit, there is probably someone on this site with a 75-83 wing that will buy it off you.. Go for it..

Yes , it will fit , got one on my 77 . I am assuming that you know how to setup and mark the dipstick properly . mine only holds 3 qts including the filter . BOOKS aren`t always correct . Have fun . Ramblinman said all that .

I purchased one of those dipsticks from JC whitney for my 82 and after it was installed it always dripped oil... finally had enough and decided to see if it was something I did so, removed it and put oil plug back in and low and behold the dripping oil is gone...

:? I know this thread isn't about oil capacity but I just have to question this. Something isn't right here. ????? :? How have you determined this to be the correct oil amount?

I have had a dip stick on my bike since I got it, never ever leaked oil, at some point the rubber seal must have gotten damaged somehow, probably got over tightened once.. or a bad o'ring..I also modified my dip stick so I can just view the oil level at a glance..Because I'm lazy.. I just like making things easy on myself is all... :D

My 1100's dipstick had no O-ring, just a simple compression fitting. It never leaked.
