Old GoldWing starters...

Post by Sempai »

Does anyone have a contact who can help with starters for older GWings?
...A source to BUY the starters? New? Used?
...An outfit that refurbishes older, defunct starters?

Be specific on what year and model you are asking on. There are differences. IE: your signature lists a gl1500, interstate is different than Aspencade and SE. Gl1200 is different than gl1100.

You can usually take them apart and clean the starters and put in new brushes and bushings if needed. Look in the how to section at the top of the forum page for instructions.
Or a local automotive starter alternator shop will rebuild them.
There is also Ken Hemmings that rebuilds alternators and starters off of wings.

Here is Ken's web page. He is a member of steve saunders goldwing facts forum and has good reviews there by many members.

Thanks for that link, but I'm looking to go older than the 1500. I believe the GWing in question here is a 1000 model, sorry, I don't know the year.

Sempai,
Starter technology has not changed that much, and what is good for today was also good for yesteryear. Give Ken Hemmings an email and ask him, as I am sure he will be able to assist you. And he appears to be reliable.
