Winter maintainece projects on my Wing.

Post by furnacedoc »

Ok so officially the days are getting longer so it is time to start my winter Wing projects. I figure if I can't ride it I may as well work on it to get it ready. I am longing for warm summer days and nights to ride. Oh well will just have to let this PMS run its coarse. ( parked motorcycle syndrome) see ya on the road.

I have the same situation here in Alaska, after cutting out a section of my hot tub room door, flipping the tub on its side and over to one side I brought my GL1500 in the house, no garage at home, I also have my 95 Virago 750 in my "man cave" right behind my recliner, its just there for security, the wing still needs my attention to install a shifter mod, finalize the new HID wiring, installing the rear speakers, and LED mods to the running exterior lights. Then I need to shop for some lower body panel parts, the lower front cowl is all scratched up, may get a chrome one, and also are the lower exhaust covers, then my rh engine guards are scratched up from the PO. Maybe and thats a strong maybe by late april the snows may have thinned out enough to get it out of the house so its like almost 4 months I have to tinker with it.

I do have more bikes at work including two older Gl bikes, an 81 and an 84, then another 85 thats a running bike but needs some TLC, paint and such.

Not yet, as of right now I am in a winter stasis, just finished a major engine repair on one of my SUVs, kinda under the weather at the moment, hoping it clears up soon and then I need to get back to work on my bikes before I get called back to my seasonal job, yeah I was laid off late december out of the blue but I really needed the time off, my very intense goal this year is building a shop big enough at home, I do have 8 acres and its rural so I have plenty of room, its just working in Alaska during the winter I am not too enthusiastic about, and my trip outside has been put off indefinitely as my brother in CA is in Mexico right now getting a bunch of new teeth.

Well you're gonna need to work on bikes AND snowmobiles, right? You'll need a mechanic or two, are there enough people around you to sustain a business???

I absolutely detest working on snowmachines, I have a Polaris 500cc water cooled sled under a tarp in my front yard, it runs...its been there for two years, It came with a trailer in a package deal, all I wanted was the trailer to haul my bikes around. I used to work on sleds a lot, started back even before i moved to Alaska when I was a mechanic at Heavenly the ski resort, sure I could make money working on sleds but i would rather just take some vacation time off in the winter. I cannot get the same feeling on a sled that I get on a bike, for one thing its just too darn cold!
