Reverse for a 1976 Goldwing 1000gl

Post by emayora »

Hi Guys, quick question.

Does anybody know if there is a Honda or Aftermarket Reverse for the 1976 Honda Gold Wing 1000gl?
Or even if a reverse from a different year can be adecuated to this bike.

My dad is getting a bit old (not California Rasing style) but not as strong as he used to be.
He loves his bike but has a really hard time pushing it backwards.

Thanks all for your help, :-)

I'm not aware of any "off the shelf" reverse for the 1000...
I found myself in the same situation....The bike is heavy....
I had to make a conscience effort to never stop the bike in a position that would require it be to be backed up....I would drive twice around the parking lot till I got it pointed going out....I even got to where I could turn it around in the shed....I just moved the stuff out of the way....It's was always pointed out.
I also avoided pulling into a single parking spot....I pick the ones that were double and parked pointing out the wrong way...

Or you could spring for a bike with reverse.... maybe a trike kit could be found that fits the gl1000 with a reverse....
Hey,It's your Dad....Do whatever you can to keep him riding a bike.... :D

Thanks for the answer, hope to find an answer soon. Will also check the Kit that you said. My dad is the stuborn type, he will ride forever its in his DNA. Suggested to change to another bike but as you can imagine his answer wasn`t even near to a happy answer. He loves his bike. I guess it reminds him of old years.

I don't remember ever seeing a reverse for the GL1000. The best, easiest and (actually) the least expensive solution would be to buy a gently used GL1500. Having a factory reverse was a game changer the first time I rode one…. me and the wife drove up to a cafe, found the side of the parking lot that was on a up-hill grade and proceeded to 'drop the jaws' of the people inside when I dropped it into R and BACKED UP INTO THE PARKING SPOT!!

As time goes on…... your Dad may need to trade off from 2 to 3 wheels. Trike kits are still made for the 1500's.

Back in the '80's I remember seeing an aftermarket reverse kit for touring bikes. it was an electric motor that ran on the front of the rear wheel. I don't remember who made it . Have you tried a Google search ?

Yes but for my luck have not found anything concrete have written to my dad, waiting on his reply. I also think that a more modern bike will suit him better. Will see how it goes with that idea. Just as a conversation topic. I have found a 1975 goldwing 1000 gl with 3000 miles on it. Everything is new, not even the first service was made. Original everything. The owner purchased it, rode it for a month or two and then removed all oils and liquids, greased all parts and wraped it. Just a few weeks earlier it was re assembled. The only wrong thing is an o ring on the left front shock that is broken. Besides that it sounds great.

There is a reverse kit that is made for the Harley Trike's. Seen/installed one of those. Nice kit but no way it'd fit a GL1000.LOL
