Garmin Zumo 550 Replacement Security Screw

Post by Eboness »

I recently bought a Garmin Zumo 550 and discovered real fast that removing
it from it's cradle was a pain in the ass because that little tiny security screw
is very hard to see and using the security screwdriver to remove the unit
everytime I stopped for lunch, visiting, etc was also a pain. Now I know you
can buy replacement hand operated screws on eBay and I think you can still
get them from Wing Stuff, but thought I'd try a DYI work around.

Here's my list of parts;

3 x 16MM long M2 S/S Hex head screws
3 x 6-32 knurled nuts - brass
6 x M2 S/S nuts
6 x M2 S/S washers
3 x 6 inch long S/S leader lines with swivels
Loctite 262 (red)
1 x 1.5MM Hex Ballpoint Screwdriver

Here's the finished product;

Connect the items as shown or required and don't for get to use
the Loctite 262 on the threads where the nuts will be. Remember
the swivel needs to be placed with enough space between the nuts
so when you screw or unscrew the knurled nut it does not bind.
