repairing a broken windshield vent trim

Post by jdavidsmit »

:? Has anyone had any luck repairing the trim on the outside of a windshield vent? I noticed mine was broken while riding in the Veterans day parade. it's broken right above where the screw screws in, the screw will tighten.

I was thinking clear plastic model glue, like model airplanes etc.

or should i just break down and buy a new one.

Thanks in advance

David

I don't know what type of plastic those vents are made of, but whatever it is, it's very brittle and delicate - not at all good for its purpose. I've modified it by heating and bending it, but any type of force causes it to fracture and break, and I've yet to find a decent glue that holds it back together. I ended up just buying a replacement.

Not sure but, as brittle as it seems, I'm guessing acrylic. Should be UV stable polycarbonate!
Anyway, I'd use super glue.

Thanks for the info. I used super glue for now, ordering a new one. also noticed when i had it apart the spring was broken. guess i used too much force trying to close it.
