checking battery fluid level

Post by joeincalif »

The 1500 wing I just bought has a old style lead acid battery. With it in the bike it is hard to check the fluid level. The side of the battery has an UPPER and LOWER level mark but the side of the battery is white, so what tricks are there to see the level without taking the battrery out?

It's tough to do. Sometimes shining a flashlight into the side helps, but I will usually rock the bike gently from side to side. This gets the electrolyte moving inside the battery, and it is much easier to discern the level of electrolyte through the side of the battery when it is moving than when it is still.
