Brake fluid

Post by deepsix777 »

I want to flush my clutch and brake master cylinders. I have a can of dot-4 brake fluid I opened about a year ago wondering if I can still use this or should I get a new can.

Dispose of the old stuff responsibly. Invest in a new sealed can. Brake fluid attracts water, and that is why you have to replace it about every two years. If you leave it longer, water starts to collect in the system, giving you less stopping because water boils at a lower temperature; and, the components start to rust and other stuff starts to pollute remaining fluid, and that is when it can become expensive to replace items.

So ditch the old stuff, and use new brake fluid.

Brake fluid is cheap. Always go with a new bottle of fluid.
