GL 1100 tires

Post by Bluto »

Looking for information on tires for my 83 wing. Am currently running continental. I get about 8000 miles out of rear. What tires work best for others, perhaps get better mileage?

I've got Dunlop Elite 3's on mine right now, and I'm quite happy with them - I've got 15,000 miles on them, and they will be done at the end of this season. I do have some cupping on the front tire. I *think* I am going to try some Avon Venoms next. They're a bit more expensive, but I have heard really good things about them.

Where did you find the elite's to fit. I looked for them and can not find them to fit my 83.

This is not "apples to oranges" but, I've had Avon Venoms on my '84 CB650SC Honda Nighthawk since '06 w/over 11k and they're wearing like a new winter coat!!!

Just my two-cents, from a new-be...

I'm thinking I need new shoes for my '80 GL1100i before any "touring" events....

Any ideas??

What causes the cupping? My 82 is doing it real bad on the rear. It has elite's on it.

Guys, I run Metzeler ME 880's and I have had superb mileage and performance out of these tires. 29,000 km's (18,000 miles) on the rear and I currently have 37,000 KM's on the front tire which will safely see me through this fall and then I will change it in the spring to start the new season.
As for cupping, that is normally caused by low air pressure. I know with the Metzelers you have to run higher air pressure than with other tires, I run around 39 to 40.

It can also be caused by loose head (steering) bearings.

My front tire is wearing right no cupping noticeable on the front. Its my rear tire that is cupping bad. I'll have to try to find what the pressure is supposed to be on the elite II's. I have been putting in the air pressure the bike manual calls for.
