Item replacement
I know that when you replace the timing belts in a ft. wheel drive car it's best to replace the water pump also because it's in that area also. So when the timing belts are changed in a wing is it common knowledge or better insurance to replace the water pump, hoses, thermostat and belt tension wheels also at this time ?

Re: Item replacement
For peace of mind...sure....
My 1200 belts and idler needed to be replaced due to age/rust...The water pump bearings were noisy (150k miles) and the impeller had a bit of lateral wiggle....so I replaced it too. It still worked but the bearings wouldn't have lasted another season..
While I was there,I did replace the thermostat, but the hoses were in great shape inside and out so I left them..
About the water pump....It's internal..under the front cover..It does take quite a effort and delicate touch to get a new one to seal properly. You can't just hammer it into place..there's "O" rings that can roll and pinch..we usually lube them for a smooth fit..
Be sure you get a OEM pump AND all the "O" rings and gaskets...beware of certain sellers.and there posted knockoff lookalike junk..get your parts from Honda or Honda parts supplier...OEM original only not a replacement. It will cost more but it will actually fit.

Re: Item replacement
I'd also suggest valve stem seals while the belts are off - easy to get the cams out.
