Loose clutch lever

Post by RobinAustin »

 I have developed a case of the "wobbles" in my clutch lever on my '07 'Wing. As a consequence, the wind causes it to move and turn off my cruise control. If I stabilize the lever with my fingers cruise with no problems. Yes, I tried to tighten it but the pivot nut and bolt are extremely tight. Thanks in advance for ya'lls help :D

+1 on the bushing. They are known to wear completely through the brass bushing, to where the clutch 'pin' is actually resting against the lever, itself. Mine was only slightly worn, but I replaced it as a preventative.

Check the bushing for wear. FYI You can loosen the nut and tighten the pivot bolt to remove some of the play. Hold the bolt steady and tighten the nut. The nut locks the pivot bolt and keeps it from loosening.

I don't have Cruise but did have that rattle in the lever.
Problem was, partly from the brass bushing being worn but also where the lever glides inside the master cylinder, was worn wider.
I first tried an O-ring to snug it up but it wore out quick even with lube.
Then I went and used my very-old Wagner brake grease. This stuff will slow a snail to an amoeba's pace, it's that thick.

Ace Hardware has "flat springs" that will work quite well.

G.L.! ;)
