I installed a cb radio on my bike that has a standard microphone. Is there a way to convert it to use a helmet mounted boom mic.? also there is a jack in the back for an external speaker. can this be used to attach helmet speakers? I know nothing about cb's and wanted to install one as inexpensively as possible. It seems to work well.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: Standard CB Radio install questions
The short answer to both is yes. But its up to you just how. Perhaps put a 3.5mm plug on the of your helmet speakers and plug into radio or an extension then to radio. Several options for speakers.
The mic is more difficult. Youll need to find a boom mic that has a PTT (pust to talk) button, most likely on the cord somewhere. Then youll need to find out the pin layout for that particular radio and wire the mic and the PTT to that plug so the radio will recognize it. Not all CB mics are wired the same.
I would also advise to check the SWR (standing wave ratio) of the system prior to transmitting very much, using a stand alone meter, not the meter that is built in to some CBs. Just becuz its working doesnt mean you're not about to kill it.
Its really not that difficult of a project, even if it sounds a little overwhelming. Might be a little awkward to have to have 2 seperate plugs for that helmet but not much can be done about that.

You might call these folks and ask if they have anything that will work. http://www.sierra-mc.com/sierra.asp
