cleaning gas tank

Post by firagate »

ok so i have a good one how would i clean a gl1000 gas tank out the previous owner decided to put Diesel into the tank for years the Diesel sat he also put it into the carbs as well but i got them cleaned after 2 day of constant cleaning
but with the sludge being thick and inside of a closed gas tank i have absolutely no clue how to go about cleaning it out
anyone ever had to do this any good ways to get it cleaned or should i just buy a new tank?

I own and operate a small engine shop, and that is a constant problem, and here is what I do to steel tanks that have varnished and rusted-I remove the tank, then remove its caps, sending units, carb or what have you, then I use about 1/4 bottle of awesome cleaner (comes from the dollar tree), then I add about 3 cups of gravel from my parking lot (sand might work), and then I take my power washer (2400 psi?) And blast that dude out with like a 20 degree tip at every angle I can. It only takes a few minutes. You will be amazed at the results. I don't share that locally. The little screens in your tank may not make it, but a inline filter will cure that.
My exercise bike is a goldwing.

clean as posted above but finish it off by filling the tank with vinegar and let sit for 2 days. it worked on my neighbors 2003 z1000.
