speedo issues

Post by willy b »

Speedo quit on my 82 Aspencade. Started making grinding noises and finally quit, put on a new speedo cable, but still not working. Is there any way to tell if it is the speedo itself or the drive on the front wheel ?

Good evening Willis b, I don't know if this is the best or only way but I would disconnect the cable from the gear box on my front wheel, put bike on center stand, jack the front wheel off the ground enough to allow me to spin it, look at the drive end and see which way it turns as I rotate the tire as if going forward, and also listen for any noise in that area, if none, I would take my drill and connect speedo cable and turn cable in same direction as if connected, slowly at first then increase drill speed to see if your speedo is working. Good luck. :D :D
