complete shut down
My 1978 GL 1000 Just shut down nothing to electrical at all. Then the next day it started like normal then in the middle of riding it completly shut down and left us stranded. Any ideas

Sounds like you may have a bare wire touching the frame. I know a fellow that had this problem on another type bike. He could ride it a hundred miles with no problem and then it would die. He finally stripped the down (took all the plastic off.) and found a bare wire. Taped the bare spot and it solved his problem.

Also take the master (dogbone) fuse out and examine it closely.

It turned out it was a simple fix, Battery connection, As I was posting my problem I thought wow that sound just like a bad connection, so after I posted my problem I went out and cleaned to cable and that was all it was. Thanks for your input.

i know this is a late reply, but check the harness plug at the ignition switch.
I've seen a couple with that problem.
