Repairing cracked fairing

Post by joethans »

Hey guys,

I recently picked up a gl1100 and have been fixing it up. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to patch up this cracked fairing?

Really appreciate it.

Black abs glue. Getting hard to find.

You can also make a solution with acetone and black plastic pipe. Add black shaving until you get a goo solution. Drill a small hole at the end of each crack. put some goo on the crack and it fixes the crack pretty strong .

I don't know about how it's hard to find the black ABS glue as it's carried in every home improvement store. As to making your own, MEK works better or use clear PVC pipe primer. Leave the mixture a little thin so that it can penetrate the crack better. There is also a two part plastic welder that also does pretty good. Make sure you are working with plastic fairings and not fiberglass as the repair techniques are different. You can also get sheet ABS that you can use re-enforce cracks and soft spots.

Google "Plastex". I've used this ABS plastic repair kit to fix a lot of things, fairing and fenders included.
