I'm in the process of building my fourth GL1100 Standard and want to do a few things differently. Amoung other things, I would like to do something a little diffrent with wheels. I'm starting with a 1980 GL1100 which uses a 19" ComStar in the front and a matching 17" ComStar in the rear. I the past I have used cast wheels from 1983 GL1100's, but I'm looking fpr something different. Would a set of first generation ComStars from a 1978 GL1000 or perhaps from a 1978 CX500 work?
My questions are: 1. Will the 1978 ComStars fit without modification,(has anyone out there tried it)?
2. Will the final drive gears in the rear '78 ComStar match up with the rear end of the 1980 GL1100?
3. If the rear gears are not compatible, can the rear gears in the wheels be changed.
In short has anyone attempted this mod?
Has anyone done a GL1100 wheel swap with anything other then the 1983 cast wheels.
Has anyone attempted a spoked wheel swap between a 1975-77 GL1000 to a second generation GL1100?
Thanks in advance!!

Re: What wheels will fit?
I am unable to assist in your wheels having a fit, but perhaps this will revive the subject.

Thanks for the bump. I thought someone would have tried this conversion at some point. If no one has attempted any of these mods, I'm going to do some research and see how things go, re-invent the wheel so to speak.
