82 Aspencade not started for 2 years...
Any advice? I just bought the bike for $300 & the owner said he ran it completely out of gas before he parked it. Should I just gas it up & try to start it or maybe do some other prep first? Obviously I will check the oil , coolant levels, brake, clutch fluid, etc. Thanks!

Perfect! It is ironic that I was needing the same advice/opinions... Hey wait a minute! I posted first by a bout 7 hours! Ha Ha!!! I am just glad to have some info to refer to. Thank you!
I hope to be able to spend a little time tinkerin' with my Aspencade tomorrow, but will definitely have to go for a quick putt on my Standard first. It's been raining here the last couple days & I have been working.
I will update as things progress...

Re: 82 Aspencade not started for 2 years...
Hey everyone!
OK, so I jump started the old girl Friday night while tinkerin with stuff, drinkin some beer & listening to blues & I'll be damned! She fired up & ran with the old gas! It idles great, but when when you try to rev her up, not so good. I let it idle & warm up & it came up to normal temp, according to the temp gauge.
I had a new battery, so I installed it. Obviously I didn't need to jump start anymore but she still runs like crap... I didn't really think it would run at all. The Honda voltmeter is not responding, so I do not know if it is charging. It was gettin' late & I was just so excited it even started! I will investigate further with my own multimeter... I did car audio professionally for 25 years, so any electrical issues won't be a problem to figure out.
I know, I know, the carbs are all clogged up. So I bought some SeaFoam, new spark plugs & will try that to just see what happens. The worst that will happen is I will get to drink some more beer, listen to more tunes & get intimate with my new baby! Ha Ha! She might even run well enough to go for a little spin. Who knows... Well as long as I haven't drank too many beers by then.
I have been gazing at my 2 new bikes, end to end, & my daughter & I agree that we like the lines & looks of my wineberry '82 Standard GL1100 with matching Vetter fairing more than my '82 silver/grey Aspencade. That might change once the Aspencade gets a bath & I get to ride it.
Is a guy supposed to have this much fun? My wife told me to get a hobby... She'll be sorry unless I can get her to ride with me!
