They didn't come with lighters, so whatever is in there, some previous owner put in. Go ahead and put whatever you like in there - any Wal-mart or auto store unit will work (as long as it will fit).

Maybe the fitting wasn't really used for a lighter, but as a power supply for something else, maybe a GPS

Wow, I would have never known that, here I'm thinking it's stock, there's also a voltage meter far to the right, I got it to work due to a bad fuse, now it's working fine...I'm off to walmart or Auto Zone, thank's guys..

If it for power only use a marine one. No rust and usually has a rubber cap. That is what I installed on mine.

Well shoot, I read your post too late, I just got one from auto zone it works great, you know whats funny, I don't even smoke ha ha... I wanted to have that hot plug in so I could plug in stuff like my air mattress pump and a custom spot light, yeh buddy my tire pump if needed...That sucker is hot all the time too..Now I don't have to look for matches to light my camp fire..Too many reasons..Hey I could charge my phone...

When using a pump or other type of equipment, that takes a lot of amperage draw, to have the engine of the motorcycle running above idle speed so the pump motor will not burn out. Some things need that extra power from the stator or alternator so they don't burn out.

Yes, a marine receptacle outlet comes with a cap to keep water and debris from entering besides being rust-proof.
