EMGO fuel filters - gone?

Post by WingAdmin »

I stopped in Cyclemax Ohio yesterday, to pick up a fuel filter for my 1100. He told me that supply of the aftermarket (Emgo) filters has dried up. He told me that he had called Emgo, and they told him that they had stopped making them, and were not planning on making them anymore.

This means that instead of the $4 Emgo fuel filter, our only option is the $25 Honda OEM filter. So if you're planning to change your fuel filter in the near future, you might want to hunt one down today before the supply dries up!

Just picked up a 10 pack from Bike Bandit for $22.08. They are on closeout. Should last me a while.
Also found a 10% off coupon on thefind.com Use promo code PROG931 when ordering.
$19.87 plus $8.95 shipping not bad.
Good Luck!!

WingAdmin,
Thanks for the heads up.

Isn't the EMGO the one noted for problems with the filter deteriorating and ending up in your pump and carbs?

Yeah, I have heard a few reports of that - although I haven't seen it in mine. I mentioned this to Gary at Cyclemax, and wondered if this might be the reason they've discontinued them. I've never had any problem with their filters.

I for one won't miss the EMGO filters. I am one of the people that had a bed experience with their filters. 350 miles away from home I had to pull the carbs on my 76 and separate and completely disassemble the carbs to remove the debris caused from the fuel filter deteriorating. ( The glue came apart and got into the carbs and it was large enough to clog up the plenum ports.) When I returned home I took the filter out of my 1500 and found the same problem starting to happen. I started a thread on the Saunders site that Emgo got in on with some questions but they never came back with any answers. I even sent them pics of the filters that I took apart. I thought it may have been a bad batch but if they stopped making them I guess they couldn't get China to do a better job.
I use a glass filter from Auto Zone with a replaceable cartridge for both bikes now.

That is what I read on a different site. Owners should be aware of this, and know that final sales are because of this. It would be nice if they could say they have remedied the problem and had some marks on the boxes, however knowing GREED, they'll probably liquidate what they have and then come out with the replacement. Apologies for being pessimistic.

I also put a NAPA Gold 3011 filter on mine. It's a tight fit on the holder, but it does work. Plus, it's transparent, so you can see the fuel (and anything else) in it.

Anyone reading this thread should also read this thread to see what I found when I pulled my Emgo filter off my bike.
