Magic Gas

Noticed there is a Gasoline Substitute out there called "Magic Gas" does anyone know anything about it?? States is Nonflammable, but saw a couple of "Does it Work" news casts that showed that it worked. Not sure if it would work in a GW or not.

It does indeed claim to be combustible and non-flammable, two properties which would seem to be at odds with each other.

If it works and reviews say it does it would be a great for emergencies and that is what it is intended for. If you want to carry extra gas without the danger this is what you need. For $15.00 you toss it in you saddlebag or trunk as a safety net

It's actually "Magic Tank" and it's marketed as an emergency backup for people who run their car out of gas. It's marketed as being "non-flammable" and safe, but that's obviously false, because if it was non-flammable, your car's engine couldn't burn it to produce power. I think they are saying that the vapors won't explode like gasoline vapors will, if they fill your car.

The reviews on it say that the jug is sealed, but that heat/time will cause the chemicals in the stuff to degrade the seal, resulting in a very strong chemical smell emanating from the jug that will make you sick if you carry it in your car.

Another limitation is that it is supposed to work only if the engine is already warm - i.e. it won't start a cold engine (says their own documentation).

It's expensive..and I think it's just far simpler to not run out of gas in the first place. Perhaps it's from years of flying airplanes, but I consider my tank empty when I have one hour's worth of range remaining. This has served me well in cars and airplanes my whole life. I've only run out of gas once in my life, and that was on my GSX-R750, which didn't have a fuel gauge, and had been inadvertently been left with the petcock on "prime" - which draws from the reserve sump instead of the main sump. So when the engine started to chug, I reached down to switch to reserve...and guess what, there was no reserve. That was a long push uphill to a gas station nearly two miles away...

Yeah, pretty pricey stuff, but what's it worth to get an out of gas bike off the side of an E-way in the middle of the night. Lots cheaper than a roll back.

Two cans, will give you and extra 15-20 miles, at least on my old GL1500. It's expensive, but on the plus side, they don't take up much room at all. I've never run out of gas, but I may start to pack a can or two, especially when traveling. It's cheap insurance, doesn't take up much space, and if I do run out, I won't have to wait for AAA or my insurance roadside service. Who wants to travel around with a spare gas can strapped on their bike?

Hopefully you are gonna use this on a vehicle where the manufacture recommends adding an additive in their fuel tank. No where does Honda recommend adding an additive to any fluid on 5th generation Wings.

To answer the combustible vs. flammable question. If you look at the SDS's of the Magic Tank and gas, or even diesel. You will see that the Magic Tank is closer to diesel in flash point. Gas has a flash point of -45°F (because of the vapor), where the Magic Tank is 104°F, closer to diesel at 125°F which has very little vapor. So, it may not explode like gas, but it is going to take a pretty good ignition source to ignite. It has some similar items to gas, but also similar to diesel. Don't believe I would want it in my vehicles. But, I'm with WingAdmin, gauge gets to 1/8 to 1/4 tank range, time to find a gas station. Or in the olden days of odometer, know the range of the tank and subtract 50 - 60 miles from that, odometer gets there start looking for gas. I had to do this along with the reserve petcock. Like so many before and after me, forgot to put it back to main. Couldn't tell you how many times I reminded my son to turn it back and had to rescue him with a gas can. But that is the adventures of the road and good times.
