Trike conversion rear tire

Post by PappyLane »

I have an 84 Aspencade with a trike conversion, yes training wheels. Had it about three months. I am in need on a new rear drive tire. Does it have to be a motorcycle tire? As it is not leaning anymore would a car tire work?

I don't see why not. A lot of people run a car tire on their 2 wheel motorcycles.

When I had my 03 Suzuki lc1500 I replaced the rear tire with a car tire. At the time I was running a Voyager kit. Made a world of difference around town and on the highway. The bike no longer had a tendency to follow the cracks in the road and the ride on the highway at speed was a lot smoother and more stabile. When I took it in to Voyager to have the settings checked on the rig the mechanic took it out for a ride and when he came back he said they should put these tires on all of their kits. He was really surprised what a difference the car tire had on the ride and handling of the kit. If you do the car tire youll get more mileage out of the rear tire also as the training wheel kits have a tendency to eat the stock rear tires more quickly.

Doesn't have to be a trike to utilize a car tire... "Darkside" usage (running a car tire on the rear) is a fairly common occurrence these days...

I use a Tow Pac trike kit and have run both a Yokohama Avid Envigor and currently a Bridgestone Drive Guard... Both have yielded excellent mileage and handling with and without the trike kit... Both these tires are also run flat tires which is another plus...

Visit the "Darkside" sub forums on various forums and ask what the 1200 riders are using... I am riding a GL1800 so my tire size would not do you any good, but we typically run 195/55-16 RF tires...

Will the 1200 wheel accept a car tire? I have read that it would not fit without modifying the rim.???
