Hi folks,
I'm rebuilding a Honda CX500 at the moment and am looking at fitting a late 70's, early 80's GL1000 temp gauge and ammeter. The CX500 runs a 7 volt temp gauge also, could I use this regulator with a GL gauge. I noticed there's a few different types of regulator mentioned here /Store.asp . That leads me to believe i may need to use the regulator that is meant for the gauge, is that right? I guess the senders would be the same from one honda to the next.

Re: 7 Volt regs throughout the honda range
The regulators are all identical - the only difference is the type of connector that goes on the end of the wires. Honda ended the GL1000 in 1979, and started the GL1100 in 1980, so if you were looking at a 1980's temp gauge and cluster, you'd be looking at a type "C" regulator, with the lug output on it.

I wonder if the resistance of the sending unit is the same between bikes? eg;200 ohm at 150 degrees or whatever it measures.I would at least check the book.

This is the gauge I've bought to fit to the CX500 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... MEWNX%3AIT
I have no idea what the CX regulator is rated at.

The regulator is the same voltage,I question if the temp sending unit has the same resistance/temperature .you can test it prior to install as shown in the pix.

Is it just me or does that setup look like a garage burner to any one else .

I thought the same thing when I read that...I think I'd be doing THAT test outside using a camp stove, far away from my house!nhegge wrote:Is it just me or does that setup look like a garage burner to any one else .![]()
