ZUMO 395 Tire Pressure APP disappears

Post by Andy Cote »

I think this is the best forum for my question.

I purchased a Zumo 395LM complete with a pair of tire pressure sensors. The tire pressure APP keeps disappearing from the list.

-Out of box, connected to PC and installed all updates.
-I hooked up mount, power and audio first. Everything was fine.
-Connected phone and music using Bluetooth. Everything was fine.
-Read instructions about connecting pressure sensors. Went to APP list and no APP for tire pressure, Scratched my head, checked again, finally did the Restore Defaults method and the APP showed up. Set up the sensors per instructions and all is right with the world.
-Next day fired up GPS and no APP.
-Restore defaults again. Redo pressure sensors. Power off and on. Okay. Power off, wait ten minutes. No more APP.
-Do this a couple times just to prove Einstein right (definition of insanity).
-Plugged into PC, refreshed updates (current software is 4.40). Deja vu all over again.

Called Garmin. They have no prior reports of this problem but have sent to SW Engineering to see what's up.

Anyone else have this?

Fixed. maybe. I ended up doing three things.

There are two resets. I was using the Settings/Restore/Restore Defaults? menus. There is also a Master reset.

To perform a master reset for these devices:
• Touch View Map
• Touch the Speed icon
• Touch and hold the speedometer for approximately 5 seconds
• Release your touch when the Diagnostics Page displays
• Touch Clear all user data
• Touch Yes when prompted to "Erase all user data?"
The device will now be reset. Follow the on-screen prompts then place the device in an area with a clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites.

On the top of the display on the main screen is an icon of a bike but when I snapped into the cradle the icon changed to a car. I tapped it and changed to motorcycle and now it seems to work fine.

So I have no idea how it knows it's in the cradle without power. Must be some capacitor in that Garmin wiring. I have no idea why the default is a car for the motorcycle cradle or why it changes at all from cradle mount to standalone.

Anyway, seems to be working for the moment – hopefully for good.

Thanks to Kendoo, TerryBoyle and Garmin Customer Service. Sure wish factory instructions were better.

Good to know. If my 390 ever does this, I will have a place to start investigating. Thanks for posting.

Knock on wood, still doing what I want it to do. Very satisfied both on the bike and when I have used in my truck.

I have a 390 I have had for a couple of years. Finally had to change the batteries in the pressure sensors. Recently upgraded the software and was pleased to see the updates included the 395 software for inserting "Where To's". Much easier than the original software that came with the 390.
