decal removal

Post by CapnDenny1 »

I have a 1982 GL1100 Interstate. Th epain tis in pretty good shape, but it has some stuff that to me looks like a decal. Here is a closeup of what I'm talking about.

Som eplaces it just looke faded, but others it looks liek it wants to peel off. Is it possible to remove this? Is this under the clearcoat as some have said, or is this just a decal that I can pull off with a little heat and goo-gone? I've also seen som ecrazy eraser wheel that is supposed to remove decals without hurting the paint?

Thanks,

Dennis

This is the same problem that I posted yesterday. With age the clear coat is gone. I'll keep an eye on your replys, and I someone comes up with any suggestions I'll let you know.

When the bike was built it was definitely under the clearcoat. I have the 1981 with fairing, etc. My suggestion is to polish the bike as well as possible (try using turtle wax ice products) and see how this whole thing looks then. I did use a plastic paint scraper and went over the top of the pinstripes. Just run across it a couple of times. If nothing comes off I would leave it.

Thanks for the replies. I was hopin git was just a decal I could remove. It's weird it's just where the stripes are, an dthe rest of the paint looks good, well gooder anyway.
