595lm zumo

Post by lionsden »

This has probably been covered a million times but now with an 1800 I am lost. I have a 2012 without nav. have added a 595lm zumo. Got the aux. plug under the left pocket into audio out will not talk to me. I also got the hollsco interface and connected it to the intercom but dont have 3.5mm plug in anywhere. I also want to add my xm radio but dont know where that plugs into. So far some this or that but cant hear xm either. I think some have said aux. pug under pocket goes to audio out zumo and xm into audio in on zumo but that doesnt work either. It was simple on the 1500 but not now. So any play by play instructions would be great. And Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

I have the GARMIN 396 which is a little different.

I think I had to set the GPS up to automatically change from speaker mode to phono jack when I plugged it into the MC cradle. Also the GPS volume needs to be adjusted separately for the speaker and for the jack.

Once plugged in to the connection you speak of, you need to push the AUX buttom twice. First push provides audio from whatever is connected to the USB and the second is for the phono connection. And of course you need to be in headset mode with a properly connected headset and that volume adjusted.

WingAdmin can help with the Hollsco unit but that injects into the intercom so you need to have the intercom on and volume adjusted accordingly. You can buy 3.5 mm to 2.5 mm adapter plugs.

So I was able to get gps to talk to me with aux under pocket plugged into gps out and able to get xm radio play through hollsco interface in head set by plugging interface directly into xm but xm did not mute when gps talked and only volume control was on interface box.

swap 'em. The Hollsco unit is sending over the intercom so it will mute whatever audio is playing (FM, AM, or AUX input). Switch and the GPS will then override/mute the AUX audio only when it speaks directions.

I just purchased a 396 LMT S for my ST1300. It is bluetooth only. There is no RCA jack on it like my 390 has that I can find. It doesn't matter because I use a dongle to adapt my SiruisXM radio to work with my bluetooth headset. But on the GL1800 that will not work. It has an RCA jack and a cable is plugged into the Zumo and then to the AUX input on the Goldwings radio system... You need an adapter for the 1500...

Bill,

Thanks for posting. I just realized I posted mine is a 396 when it is in fact a 395. Mine has a rubber plug on the bottom that covers a small RCA type plug.

Yes, same as the 390. The 396 was supposed to be an updated version of the 390/395, but it was changed. No RCA PLUG, AND IT DOES NOT SUPPORT TMPS....

I have an EdSets Bluestream bluetooth adapter module that can meld all of that together for you.... if you are interested? it is "brand new" old stock, I bought it 3 years ago, and just never got around to changing the way mine works.. right now, my GPS audio is wired into the Intercom ala WingAdmin's interface adapter... I decided not to add a cellphone into the mix, so I don't need it anymore.

I had hoped you would PM me, need to take this off the forum thread.
When daylight arrives, I will dig it out, make the photos and send a link to them via a PM.
