I just got a set (all three brakes) of aftermarket Kevlar brake pads for my 87A; They are identical to stock except for one thing, they have no "slots" cut into them.
I'm thinking this is a nessasary thing to have, isn't the function of slots to release gases and "clean" off the rotors? I'm considering cutting in my own slots...any ideas or comments?
Brake Pads?

Re: Brake Pads?
That's odd - I had a quick look around the net and was unable to find any without slots in them.
That said...given the rarity (and therefore expense) of old Goldwing brake rotors, I am somewhat hesitant to use anything but regular organic pads on them - I'd much rather go through a set of pads and replace those, than have to go hunt down a replacement brake rotor.

Re: Brake Pads?
I got them from ebay, in the ad they show them WITH slots in them. Maybe I got an odd set? Anyway,I'm going to cut slots in them; that will be easier than going through the pain of returning them..thanks for your comments about organic pads...
They (whomever they are...the place I bought them) claim that Kevlar pads are far better in several areas over organic pads. They are supposed to be easier on rotors, work better over a wider range of temeratures, are better in wet & dry and create less brake dust.
I guess I will find out.....

Re: Brake Pads?
I put these same pads on my 94 for the main reason that Kevlar is easier on rotors (softer pads than OEM)- the pads won't last as long as OEM but I feel better knowing I am not wearing my rotors out- so far no worries- and mine did not have the slots either but I felt it ok since I don't see long protracted use of the brakes other than stop and go- now my Buell- that is a different story.....

Re: Brake Pads?
Thanks for the reply mrwoodboat; Did you notice any difference in the brakes, like better performance? Less brake dust? Noise? That sort of thing..Barry.

Re: Brake Pads?
Brakes feel full- no fad at long stops and no noise yet...I plan to pull them at 2K and see how they are wearing- will post what I find...so far so good..I have previously tried some of the "factory" pads and they made a huge racket during a gradual stop- did ok with quick stops- they wore ok on my VTX but I ride that bike pretty hard..
