The rectifier/ regulator is located in the Alternator next to the brush holder.

If this is not the problem then the fault could lay with the cruise control fuse. Sounds ridiculous but it does effect the charging of the battery. You will have to strip the cruise control, on the handlebar, but this is simply done with two or three screws.

Silly question, but did you check all the connections for corrosion?

all connections checked,none loose , none corroded, having trouble finding rectifier any idea where its hidden? But thanks for the input

Right, unlike the earlier bikes, the 1500 and 1800 have automotive-style alternators, with the regulator/rectifier built into it.
