PAINTING EMBLEMS 1983 GL1100I
I'm almost ready to take all 17 pieces of my winger to get painted, this is very tedious work. My question is has anyone ever had success in repainting their emblems? Can I use baby stripper on the plastic emblems to remove the old paint? And what type of paint should I use. If I can do it myself I will probably save some $$. I have done all the other work sanding and glasssing (i know it's been said not to use fiberglass but it does hold up well). Testament to the glass...I had to fix the two forward fairings this past summer and replaced both lower lug attachments that were missing with fiberglass and they have held up to now. Any suggestions for the emblems ???

If you can get the old paint off of the emblems you could use finger nail polish, I did this on my tank emblem used black polish for it look good nice and shinny. You can also get lots of other colors, red yellow, black what ever you need. Hal

Not sure if it would work but how would model paint work. Just an idea. Brian

I used auto touch up paint in the bottle, a small brush and a really steady hand. Perfect no but it did save $$.

Thanks for the suggestions. This is real tedious work. I have been using a razor blade to scrape the old paint off. There actually is a bright shine underneath the dull PO paint job. Wish these emblems were cheap where I could just buy NEW ones and be done with it.

I repainted all of my emblems
these are not the best photo's but I can tell you how I did mine, I sanded the old paint smooth as possible, then painted the whole thing gold, I used model paint[ little jars] from a hobby shop but I sprayed the gold background with can paint, then after it's nice and dry filled in the spots with color and have some qu-tips lightly tipped in mineral spirit's to fix any goof's it worked for me, I'm sure there are other ways and better way's..Good luck..when dry clear it..

Very nice. Mine are in sorry shape, and I have to admit I just haven't cared enough to do them. Perhaps I'll put it on next winter's "to do" list.
