Inspection plug? For what?

Post by BladeRunner9 »

OK, here is my question; I'm replacing my timing belts...I'm just not sure where this T1 mark is supposed to be. I'm including a pic of some sort of "inspection" plug that I removed and put back. it's in the front of the engine just above the right belt, it was a small cover about the size of a quarter.
Peering inside...not easy to do, all I could see was the crankshaft. I just got a new service manual, but it does NOT say where this T1 thing is, just to be sure that's the position it should be in? :?
So, anyone know what this cover I pulled off is?

I haven't the slightest clue what the inspection port you removed is for.

The port that has the "T1" marking is actually up on the top left side of the engine:

You can see it in this picture - halfway down, on the left side, the round object with the slot in it. Just remove it with a screwdriver and you'll see the timing markings in it.
