Removed Muffler System , do i need a tune up?

Post by BlackGoldwing »

Hello, i just recently purchased a 1977 honda Goldwing i took the stock muffler system off and am welding a straight pipe to the headers. My question is do i have to have a check kit installed or have a tune up done after i install the new exhaust? or will the engine run ok as is, without a muffler system? Im trying to go for a louder sound and a meaner look.

Best,

Jason

I suspect you will be fine. They always say that if you change the inlet or exhaust system you should re-jet, but goldwings aren't normally setup very aggressively, so I suspect that just changing the muffler without changing the jetting would be fine. I am sure others will give their opinion.. Usually you need to go for a bigger main jet to avoid popping in the exhausts on deceleration.. I would say try it (without any changes) and if you do get popping you might consider going for a larger main jet.

Thank you very much Gary! There is some small popping between first and second but nothing too loud or constant, if it becomes a problem i will def look into a larger main jet thanks for you advice and time!
