SOS PRIORITY LITES

Post by johnny42 »

Thinking of replacing my running and directional light bulbs to LED. I contacted SOS (which is now Sound-Off-Rec), and was advised this: "Our unit does not work with LED lights. We have problems with feed back. "

Does anyone know what that means? Anyone know if there's a remedy?

Finally, does anyone know of another device that does the same thing as the Priority Lites that are compatible with LED's?

when you replace filament bulbs with LEDs, the current draw is so small, the controls won't work right.

folks then complain, so they just quit selling them to bikers.

Same problem with older cars, replace the Turn Signals with LEDs and they won't work right, you get an error light on the dash.

you have to do something to make adjustments for the lighter current draw. depends on each vehicle.

I was previously unfamiliar with this brand but do I understand that the rear turnsignals are shining amber as running and brake lights?

As John said above, the LED bulbs can cause issues. In fact you would need to replace the stock flasher just for normal turnsignal operation. You can install a resistor in series with the new bulb but that basically defeats the advantages that the LED provides.

Other wise I think you would be better to add some separate additional lights. Some examples:

I've never heard of the company nor "Priority Lites"

What exactly are you trying to accomplish and on what bike??(your post assumes we know what you are attempting to do...)

The first sentence of my post explains what I want to do, pretty hard to miss. I want to do this on my Goldwing.

The SOS Priority Lites make the rear directionals and rear brake light full-time running lights, but with reduced brightness. When the brakes are applied, the directionals go to full brightness along with the brake light.

Since my original post I've found a company that offers a similar product that works with LED lights. Here's an example: https://www.jpcycles.com/product/632-16 ... ersion-kit

But I may decide to just replace the headlight with an LED instead and leave the other lights alone.
