gl1000 and gl1100 gas tanks

Post by winguyjo »

i have 3 goldwing fuel tanks in the basement and 1 outside in a parts bike. as usual, i neglected to mark the ones that are "in stock" . partzilla shows different part numbers for the gl1000 and gl1100. are they interchangeable ?

I'm pretty sure the frames are the same on the 1000 to 1200 so, the tanks should fit unless they did some changes that I don't know.

Not quite. The Vetter rear kit (trunk/saddlebag set) from an 1100 would NOT fit on my GL1000, the mount points were all off by a half inch here and an inch there, could not get it to work...

So I wouldn't be surprised if the fuel tanks are "Just that much" different between models.

Might ask over on the "Naked Goldwings" (NGW) forum, there's a bunch of people there that know an awful lot about the early 'Wings.
A local inventor has figured a way to turn a sausage grinder backward to manufacture pigs.

yes, i am a member there so, will do. just want to list them for sale and don't want to claim that they fit something they don't.

I don't think they are interchangeable between models.

There were 2 different gas tanks on the 1000. The early ones have a drain bolt.
The 1100s have a different tank than the 1000 and so do the 1200, have still a different tank...
