Hello everyone!
So, I purchased a set of rebuilt heads for my gl1100 and come to find out they are for the gl1000.
Can I use them?
I dont intend any mods or anything, just put everything back on, new gaskets all around and bolt them up (to proper spec etc of course)
Am I screwed?
Or will they work?
Thanks for your time !

Well you could encounter some carb tuning problems as the cam lobs are different to match carbs on the 1100. The heads will fit on the 1100.
Honda did a lot of changes in the carbs between the years depending on each model and year.
The 75 & 76 cams were different than the 77-79 cams and as well the gl1100 cams were changed compared to the 1000 cams.
The 1000 has points plate on left head that you might get the 1100 cover on????
I'm not sure if the fuel pump drive is the same.
What is wrong on the 1100 heads that you want to change them?

Re: Gl1000 heads on gl1100 engine
Well, I bent the valves while taking them off and rather than try and rebuild the heads myself I opted to get rebuilt ones.
Then when I happened to find someone with a set that hed rebuilt for someone that backed out of wanting them.
Trouble is that in our haste to make a deal neither of us bothered to ask the other what engine they were for.
So now I have them.
I know I've seen it in the forums all over about doing gl1000 heads on the 1100 engine but I want to touch base with someone who's actually done it.
Because now I'm getting into having to swap over the cams into different cradles and such.
Things i was hoping to avoid.
I specifically left those things alone so i could just put them back in one piece and then only worry about adjustments.
This is my first head gasket replacement and I'm just being overly cautious.
I want to get it right.

I don't know how you would have bent the valves taking the heads off. Did you follow the directions in the service manual?
I hope you took note of the oil orifaces in each head and the direction the set in???? Don't loose them.

I bent the valves by turning them to far with the belts in place and the timing off.
It was my own fault and as soon as i did it i knew i did it.
This is my first time doing this job and i got ahead of myself.
As for all the orifices and such i bought replacements for everything.
Gaskets etc.
Got all of it.
And the stuff I dodnt need to remove or disassemble I didnt. Not right yet anyway.
I have everything meticulously set aside and on foam trays, marked.
