Help ASAP. Fork tube alignment.

Post by Quick Cal »

I'm in the middle of a fork swap. The po robbed the originals and threw on some that are shot. He had the top of the tube about 1/4'' above the triple tree. I think it should be flush. Reading the manual it just says align,,,,lol.

So do you guys think flush or is there a spec? Thanks

What year?

I usually align the top of the tube (not the top of the cap) flush with the top of the triple tree though I think either is fine so long as both sides are the same.

Oops. It's a 89. I all ready made it flush with the caps, not the plugs of course. I may change it when I put a new tire on.

Thanks.

Correct. The proper way is to have the top of the TUBE flush with the top of the triple tree, but you can get away with it a little higher (although too much will affect suspension geometry) as long as both are exactly the same. The easiest way to get them both exactly the same is to make both of them flush with the triple tree.
