Replacement Air Deflectors

Post by Northwings »

My 2005 GL 1800/30th anniversary edition is a red trike. It came with three piece red tinted air deflectors or wind wings, one segment on the bottom of each mirror and two on each edge of the fairing. Unfortunately I don’t know what brand. The lower deflectors each mount with two screws and acorn nuts. All have bends to scoop air or push it away, depending how they are adjusted.

Last fall my riding buddy had to move the bike a short distance and caught his pant leg on the left lowest deflector, breaking it in half (see photo). The deflector is about 4” high by 6” wide. The break is through one of the mounting holes and also started a stress crack, not easily visible. Although I could probably glue the piece with MEK, I prefer to just buy a new one. Most of the ads are either for a different configuration, color or for 2018 and newer. Can anyone identify the brand and steer me to someone with replacement parts? I won’t spend the money on a whole new set; if I can’t get the part I’ll glue the old one.

This seems a common problem. My son had a GL 1500 that lost all its deflectors, one at a time.

Hi neighbor. What part of Maine are you in?

Several brand of wind deflectors look similar. National Cycle has ratchet type adjustment. The rest are strictly friction. Here are a few. Note that some of the replacement parts are interchangeable.

If you can't find one, you can always make a new one. That plastic is easy to cut, shape, drill, and can be heat bent to match what you have.

Andy, we live in Poland Spring. I see you are also in Maine from the photo of Height of Land.

Just minutes after I posted this query I found the right deflector on the Baker Built site. I have one on order and I hope it will match.

Rambozo, I am handicapped and can’t build much these days; that’s why I gave up two wheels for three. Thanks for the tip, though.

I'm two towns over. Drop me a PM or e-mail if you want to meet up for a ride or lunch sometime.

Glad you got the parts ordered.
