seat starting to split at the seams
The is splinting at the seams on my 2002 GL1800. I was thinking about pitting a fine bead of black silicon on it to stop the spread. It's still very small. Any ideas?

Re: seat starting to split at the seams
Silicone probably wouldn't be as good as some sort of glue or vinyl repair.
The top of passengers back rest is splitting on mine but its a couple inches long,, gorilla tape for now,,,.

Re: seat starting to split at the seams
Well I'm sorry to say I just went through this, and I finally just went ahead and ordered me a new seat from Honda! You can repair it with some kind of glue or vinyl repair and it should hold for a while and you can start putting money back for a new one! Mine started the same way , and ended up trashed, still had a intact cushion but, I figured the foam was just as old as the bike so might as well bite the bullet and spend the
money

Sounds like a good excuse to buy a custom saddle.

Re: seat starting to split at the seams
On a previous seat I had decent results putting a layer of vinyl under the tear, then gluing the torn edges to the piece of vinyl.
Eventually, more places started to tear and a new seat was in order. I'm now on the third OEM seat and backrest but they are no longer available from Honda so I don't know what I'll do next time. Nobody, it seems, can match the color.

Re: seat starting to split at the seams
My seat decided to tear open at the seam near the front nose of the seat. I put black duct tape on it so it wont get worse and of course it is not the prettiest. I guess it's fine as long as I never get off the bike so a good excuse to keep riding. I may simply opt for a black fur pad ( you can cut on from coat liner) that will cover the seam and offer some cosmetic relief.
