Flushing my 83 interstates Radator

Post by rockguitar1969 »

Hey guys,
I was thinking about flushing out my Cooling system with a Weak solution of CLR, and then Flushing it with distilled water, and then finally filling with standard radiator fluid. What does everyone think.

It depends. Are you planning to sell the bike to someone you really don't like? Then by all means, go ahead. :)

CLR is acidic and will etch aluminum. It will damage the inside of the radiator, and any remnants of it will also damage the inside of the engine block.

From the CLR web site:

Can I use CLR to clean out my radiator?
No, CLR should not be used on a car radiator for two reasons. First, CLR may not be compatible with the internal metals of the radiator. Second, it could have adverse effects if the CLR is not rinsed out completely.

That or I use vinegar run till the temps up, dump, refill with de-ionized water, dump and fill with af, seems less harsh to my mind....Mike
