electrical problem when starting ?

Post by wingman4560 »

Ok so when I start the bike (2002 goldwing) the clock goes back 1:00 and the trip mileage also resets. It doesnt do this every time seems like after it sits for a while. I checked the battery terminals and found some corrosion on the positive side, cleaned it up and thought I solved the problem. Then it happened again today. The battery seems to be strong but I hear some sluggishness in it starting whenever this happens. I am about to buy a new battery and see what happens. Any suggestions ? Happened to anyone else before ? Any help would be appreciated as I have only owned the bike for a couple months and this is the first problem I have had.

Thanks :|

It's most likely your battery. When you let the weak battery sit for a while, the battery voltage drops. Then when you hit the starter, it drops enough that there isn't enough to keep the clock and trip computer memory set.

A new battery will likely solve your problem, and a Battery Tender will keep your new battery in top shape, so it won't happen again. :)
